I was watching some unimportant videos on Youtube, when the new commercial for the Ford Fiesta started playing before one of the videos and I decided to let it roll to see what it was about:
For those who can't watch videos right now, it's a chase scene where a cop comandeers a 2014 Fiesta to give chase to a band of masked bank robbers on a 1969 Dodge Charger (The Brazilian version, which was a Dart with grille extensions), so, pretty creative..? I guess? Anyways, what caught my attention wasn't the commercial itself, but the moment when the tiny, subcompact Fiesta pulls up alongside the Dart/Charger, which was better known in Brazil as Dojão due to its immense dimensions...
... And the Fiest is about as large as the Dart. On the outside at least, it looks about as wide and actually taller than the old Dodge. Holy crap, that's one large subcompact, if you'll aske me, and that's even before counting the fact that it's probably a lot roomier on the inside as well. After seeing this, I can't help but wonder if anyone's ever put the old Dart next to the new one and snapped a few pictures, if just for shits and giggles, and how large these cars will be in the next generation.
Do keep in mind, however, that the image could've been digitally manipulated, for whatever reason (maybe making the Fiest look more imposing?). Also, no, the Brazilian police doesn't use Taurus as police cruisers. They use these:

I'm hoping and guessing that cars will actually start getting smaller again within 2 or 3 generations. They've ballooned because of safety requirements, but I would think with more and more experience and development time the systems will get smaller and construction methods/materials will get better to make the cars stronger with less material.
Driving a small car myself, it's definitely comical comparing it to new cars and old cars, especially trucks. Next to a new F-150 my car looks tiny, but even just a 1980's C-10 looks quite a bit smaller than my car.

I had one of those moments a while ago, when I parked my Tipo next to a new Mini something (I haven't been keeping up with their models, so I don't know if it was the regular Mini or the wagon/SUV thing) and the mini was actually larger, and that's larger than a car that used to be labeled as a mid size Hatchback here in Brazil.
